□It is about ten years ago when it first began the horse riding of winter. It is attractive to see the drift ice which is spread only on this land through horse riding. Those who have not done horse riding before are also OK. Rather, beginner is preferred. Although it was serious at the time of snowstorm, the visitors were glad and were impressed most. It is my pleasure if you could experience and feel the change of drift ice of Okhotsk according to weather conditions, sky, a way, etc by horse riding.

A lake, a train
The true symbol of winter

□Upon the adjoining of Mokoto lake and Futou lake, the true symbol of winter of Abashiri can be seen. Mokoto lake is the best time for shijimi-fishery. In the "swan park" (Kitahama) of Futou lake, graceful sight of the messenger of winter, big swans can be seen.

JR Semmo Line Kitahama station is close to the Sea of Okhotsk, and is the best point of drift ice observation. The "drift ice NOROKKO ship" carries out two round trips between Shiretoko-shari-Abashiri a day.

□Abashiri-city enjoys an abundant source foods from the sea and mountain, please experience the dishes in which the local ingredients are being used efficiently.

□Abashiri-city applies to the Hokkaido inheritance, and puts "fishing KINKI" on the market. If you come to Abashiri, please taste these delicacies from the sea with local brands of sake, such as "Abashiri beer."

Shiretoko is a world natural heritage

□The government is determined to make Shiretoko into the proposed site of a "world natural heritage." The world heritage committee will determine the propriety of registration in June, Heisei 17. The region is the ocean ground of the Shiretoko peninsula and the circumference over Shari-town and Rausu-town within area Nemuro.

□Shiretoko is a drift ice coming-alongside-the-quay ground at the southernmost end of the world, and rare wild animals, such as fish owl and Steller's sea eagle, live. It is also pleasant to extend the trip from Abashiri, to get closer to the nature of Shiretoko of winter, or to see aurora by the "Shiretoko fantasia."
